Their peaceful existence is shattered when a mysterious man (Ed Harris) arrives at their doorstep unexpectedly. Mother is deeply unsettled, but her husband, desperate for inspiration and praise, welcomes the stranger inside. The next morning, the stranger’s wife (Michelle Pfeiffer) arrives, and soon the house is flooded with uninvited guests. What begins as an intrusion spirals into complete and utter chaos, as the husband’s need for an adoring audience leads to the destruction of his home, his wife’s sanity, and the eventual apocalypse.
