Bieberfelde - Next Generation is a major modification initially developed for EMERGENCY 5, 2016, and 2017, and is fully compatible with EMERGENCY 20 as well. It transforms the game into a fictional German setting with a strong focus on fire and rescue operations. The modification features special trucks with load-handling systems and containers, and it can be played with up to four players in multiplayer mode.

The modding scene for EMERGENCY 20 faces some challenges. Unlike Emergency 4 , which had a massive and thriving modding community, the underlying engine of EMERGENCY 5/20 cannot support modifications on the same massive scale. This fundamental engine limitation has prevented many modders from porting their large-scale projects from Emergency 4 to the newer game.
