Lark designed the wardrobe to lean into tactical gear—plate carriers, cargo pants, military boots—contrasting sharply with standard adult wardrobe setups.

Targets in the Playground weren’t always enemies. Sometimes they were moments — a child’s laugh, a vendor’s song, a banner for a movement whispered through the undercode. He found that a well-placed burst could free a song from algorithmic throttling, could scramble a trending narrative long enough for a counter-story to breathe. Other times his shots shattered small sanctuaries: a grandfather’s memorial stream, an artist’s live canvas. Regret accumulated like spent casings.

He didn’t remember when the hardware stopped being merely metal and code and started keeping score of his life. Maybe it was the night the feeds froze and he watched someone he loved flicker into a loop. Maybe it was the day the Playground’s moderators announced updates with the dispassionate poetry of system logs: maintenance windows, patched exploits, new monetization layers. He learned, like everyone else, to aim at more than targets; he aimed at meaning.
