The “Strumyk Net Top” (Ukrainian: Струмик сітка верх ) is a poorly documented but technologically remarkable garment from the mid-18th century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth borderlands (present-day Western Ukraine). Unlike contemporary netted garments (e.g., fishing shirts, hauberks), the Strumyk top exhibits a non-orientable, one-sided mesh structure akin to a Möbius strip integrated into the torso. This paper presents the first structural analysis of the sole surviving fragment (discovered 2019 in a Lviv monastery cellar). We argue that the Strumyk top represents an independent invention of a topologically non-trivial textile —predating modern mathematical descriptions of non-orientable surfaces by over a century. Its practical purpose: a paradoxical cooling garment that could be worn “inside-out” without structural distinction, ideal for humid river work.
