Freaknik- The Musical Review
To understand the musical, one must first understand the phenomenon. Beginning in the late 1980s and peaking in the mid-1990s, Freaknik was an annual spring break gathering of Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students and African American youth in Atlanta, Georgia.

The criticisms were severe, accusing the show of being "deplorable" and "embarrassing," and arguing that it perpetuated limiting stereotypes of black culture.
