The Book of Psalms is divided into five distinct books (Psalms 1–41, 42–72, 73–89, 90–106, 107–150), mirroring the five-fold structure of the Torah of Moses. By placing a "Torah Psalm" at the very beginning, the editors of the Psalter signaled to the post-exilic community that the collection of prayers was now to be studied as a textbook of divine instruction.
