The encryption works like a lock, and the "AES Keys" are the keys to that lock. Without the correct keys, Citra cannot decipher the game data, resulting in a black screen or a crash. Citra does not come with these keys pre-installed for legal reasons (distributing copyrighted decryption keys would open the developers up to lawsuits).
