During the wedding rehearsal, Victor suffers a nervous breakdown and flees into the nearby woods. In the darkness, he perfects his vows and mock-places a ring on a gnarled tree root that appears to be a hand. To his horror, the "root" grabs him and pulls him down to the Land of the Dead, where he finds himself married to Emily (voiced by Helena Bonham Carter), a mysterious corpse bride.
