The Shimeji story begins in Japan in approximately 2009, when a developer named Yuki Yamada of the group Group Finity created the first version of the software. The initial program (available on their website) allowed for simple wandering creatures that were a cute novelty on Japanese internet forums.

The name comes from the Japanese word for a type of mushroom, referencing how the original characters looked like little mushrooms, but today, Shimeji can be almost any character imaginable.

The default Shimeji character is just the beginning. The global community has created thousands of custom "packs" or "skins" based on popular culture. You can find Shimejis for almost any fandom, including: Demon Slayer, Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen, Genshin Impact Video Games: Undertale, Minecraft, Pokémon, FNAF

They can scale the left, right, and top edges of your monitor.
