The film opens in medias res on a tense January night in 2004. A heavily armed gang from the neighboring Qureshi clan surrounds a house in Wasseypur, unleashing a wave of bullets and grenades in a bid to wipe out their rivals, the Khan family. Believing the job done, the gang leader calls his ally, Minister J.P. Singh, to report the successful hit. However, they are double-crossed as J.P. Singh informs the police of their location. The gang is ambushed at a police checkpoint, and a fierce shootout ensues. This intense, non-linear opening reveals the violent end, setting the stage for the revenge saga to come.
