In response to the widespread distribution of the DODI rep, Kojima Productions and Konami released a series of patches aimed at disabling the rep and protecting the game's intellectual property. These patches, which were included in subsequent updates to the game, effectively rendered the DODI rep unplayable, forcing players to either purchase the game or risk playing an outdated, potentially unstable version.
