The (also known as DTS Music Disc or 5.1 Music Disc) is an audio CD that, instead of linear PCM music, contains multichannel surround‑sound music encoded in the DTS (Digital Theater Systems) format. Physically, a DTS‑CD conforms to the same Red Book standard as a normal CD, and its data rate is identical to a standard 16‑bit/44.1 kHz audio CD: 1,411,200 bit/s (roughly 1.38 Mbps). However, whereas a normal CD stores uncompressed two‑channel audio, a DTS‑CD stores a 5.1‑channel surround‑sound audio stream compressed using DTS’s proprietary codec.
